Hogwarts Legacy is an open world adventure game set in the Harry Potter universe, confirmed to be developed by Avalanche Software. That, at least, is what we've been told so far. After months of rumors, the game remains without a set release date and neither a trailer nor a recent announcement about it, leaving Boy Wizard fans with nothing to cling to while they wait.
As its name suggests, Hogwarts Legacy will take players to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And instead of retelling the story of the Harry Potter books and movies, in this game, everything takes place in the year 1800, with its own story, characters, teachers and worldview.
It seems unlikely that we'll see the saga's main characters like Harry, Ron and Hermione, but maybe we have something about their ancestors and, who knows, some character that's mentioned on Chocolate Frog cards or mentions of maybe the professor Dumbledore as one of the students running through the corridors of the school. Will you know his real age? After all, it's a magical world, isn't it?
First unveiled in 2020, the game is due to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, although we will have to wait until 2022 to play it after the postponement, with developers saying the game needs more time before it's ready for release (not counting JK Rowling's controversial statements that certainly spilled over into the game to the point that Warner had to declare she's not involved in the project), it's been a while since we've seen anything from Hogwarts Legacy .
So, if you want to study the Hogwarts legacy and find out (or remember) everything you can before its release, check out this feature on the Harry Potter RPG.
Hogwarts Legacy: What You Need to Know
- Summary: An RPG title based on the Harry Potter franchise, set in the year 1800;
- Release Date: 2022, no date set;
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, PC
Hogwarts Legacy Release Dates
When the first information about Hogwarts Legacy leaked, Bloomberg reported that the game would hit next-gen consoles in 2021. However, at the start of the new year what we saw was an official push to 2022 as publisher Portkey Games confirmed that I needed more time to get the game up and running for release (and we've already seen what happens when the game is released before it's ready, haven't we, Cyberpunk?).
Although the game was first announced at a PS5 event, it will hit Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, as well as PS4 and PC. By having your ad tied to the platform, it's still unclear whether the PS5 version will have any kind of exclusivity period.
The Hogwarts Legacy Trailer
So far, what we have from the game is a single trailer showing that Sony's PS5 release date, which has passed and been pushed back. However, it does show off some magical school environments on the console, with fantastical creatures, lots of wand action and hints about a mysterious power your avatar possesses. Hogwarts Legacy was created to be an “immersive open-world RPG” set in the magical world of the 1800s – specifically the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
According to the game's description on its official website: "Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to destroy the magical world." Having received a late acceptance letter from Hogwarts, the player discovers that they have the ability to possess and master Ancient Magic. "Only you can decide whether to protect this secret for the good of all or give in to the temptation of more sinister magic," the description reads.
In Hogwarts Legacy players created and customized their own characters, creating potions, mastering spellcasting, honing their talents, making allies and fighting Dark Mages to "decide the fate of the magical world". Players can also encounter fantastic creatures and visit new locations and some familiar ones, such as the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village.
There are rumors that a morality system plays a role in the game and the Official FAQ it certainly indicates that players will have to make decisions as they play, stating that "players will also encounter missions and scenarios that present difficult choices and determine what they represent." Despite this, the leaked information says that it will not be possible to choose the side of the villains.
News and Rumors About Hogwarts Legacy
For starters, don't wait for news during Warner Bros' presentation at E3 2021, as we said here.
That said, just because the game won't appear in the Warner Bros. presentation doesn't mean we won't see it through the myriad of gaming events to come. While it seems like a long shot right now, there are other opportunities for the game to be shown, possibly during something broader like the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live. Maybe we already have something new in another company ad. It only remains to wait.
Developed by Avalanche Software
Avalanche Software (the team behind the Disney Infinity games, NOT to be confused with Avalanche Studios, responsible for games like Mad Max and Just Cause) is developing the game. So, if you like the studio's work, you're in for a nice surprise. And if you don't like it, well… what can we say?
you will choose your house
It looks like there won't be any sort of ranking quiz drawn up at the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy during the beginning of the game made by the Sorting Hat. On a FAQ on the game's official website, it is stated that "players can choose their home at the start of Hogwarts Legacy." There are no details on how the choice will be made or if the squares can be changed later in the game, but the page says that more details on this will be available shortly.
Rumors also circulate that each house will have its own quests, which seems quite logical, after all, each house should have its own set of relevant NPCs and Teachers who can provide information and make special requests. In addition, it should be more difficult to get information from students in rival houses.
Creating inclusive trans characters
Hogwarts Legacy will feature an inclusive trans character creator, according to a report by Bloomberg. In the report, it is said that sources “familiar with game development” revealed that the game will allow players to customize their characters' body type, voice and gender to play as they please.
Sources also say that players will be able to choose a male or female voice, regardless of their character's body type, and will be able to choose whether they want to be a 'witch' or a 'wizard', with the latter choice placing them in the applicable dorm. and affecting how other characters in the game will refer to it. According to Bloomberg, this inclusion is the result of a "little push" by some members of the game's development team, following controversial comments made by J. K Rowling, the creator of the series.
“As a result, some members of the Hogwarts Legacy development team struggled to make the game as inclusive as possible, pushing for character customization and even for a transgender character to be added,” says the report. "There was resistance from management at first, people familiar with the project said, but currently character customization is included in the game."
JK Rowling is not involved in Hogwarts Legacy
According to the Bloomberg report, Rowling is not very involved in creating the game and the Official FAQ of the game claims that the game "is inspired by JK Rowling's Wizarding World", but the author "is not directly involved in the creation of the game." This was even reaffirmed several times after the author's statements about transgender people.
As the statements were repudiated and more and more requests to boycott products involving the Harry Potter brand emerged, Warner Bros. he hastened to say that she had no involvement with the game and the postponement was announced. It is not possible to know whether or not there is a direct relationship between the cases, but if, in addition to the postponement, there was pressure from the developers to include transgenders in the game, then it is possible that yes and the team is still trying to reinforce the distance of the game with the author's opinion.
Novels and rivals
This is one of the information that emerged in the Reddit and, therefore, you cannot take it as something concrete. According to the leaks, the game will have options for romance between students (something normal during school time) and some more loyal friends to accompany you during the game. There is no information, however, if it will be something as profound as Bioware's games and not even if LGBTQI+ novels will be possible. Considering the issue of trans inclusion mentioned above, it is possible that yes!
The game will also feature what has been described as a rivalry system similar to the games in the Lord of the Rings, Shadows of Mordor and Shadows of War franchise. Possibly it won't involve killing bullying students, but rather moving from being bullied into one rival's hand to having to worry about another. Apparently it will be possible to turn this rival into an ally too.
Harry Potter Magic Awakened
BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba tweeted a few things from his knowledge about the project, revealing that the mysterious RPG can be called "Harry Potter Magic Awakened". He also hinted that other Harry Potter titles might be on the way. So far we know that the Harry Potter RPG is called Hogwarts Legacy and it seems to make a lot more sense.
If the game is set in the year 1800, there is no point in linking it to the name "Harry Potter", as there is little chance of the character appearing. Except that there is a change in the direction of the project, turning it into a Harry Potter game and not a game with a customizable character or that he has an important role in the plot.
So, we can only wait, but leave in the comments: what do you expect about the game? Looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy? Do you like the franchise? Also take the time to read more about Harry Potter at Our site.
