Doom Eternal executive producer Marty Stratton interrupted the decision in a post for the Doom subreddit on Wednesday, saying:

"The feedback from the players made it clear that we should reevaluate our approach to anti-fraud integration."

Stratton said

Id Software's first update to Doom Eternal brought several changes; including Denuvo Anti-Cheat, which uses a kernel-mode driver that can access the operating system.

Although the update notes tried to remedy and lessen players' concerns; the community was not at all happy with Id Software's decision to add what they consider an invasive anti-cheat tool to their machines.

After the implementation, the reactions of the players since the update were very intense, including many negative reviews on the game's official Steam.

“While looking at any future of anti-cheat in Doom Eternal, we must consider; at the very least, give campaign-only players the ability to play without anti-cheat software installed ”

He said

“In addition to ensuring that the overall timing of any anti-fraud integration aligns better with players' expectations for clear initiatives; as classified or competitive matches, where the demand for anti-fraud is much higher ”.
