This Monday, the The Marvel movies released a video in celebration of the cinema and the films of its cinematographic universe (MCU), with the disclosure of exclusive scenes, new titles, and dates of premieres. There's a lot of new stuff coming, so follow the text!
"The world can change and evolve, but the one thing that will never change: we are all part of one big family". Starting with this phrase in the voice of Stan Lee, the video has a strong emotional appeal to fans of the Marvel universe, containing iconic and exciting scenes such as: “We are Groot”, from Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and “ Wakanda Forever ”(Wakanda forever) by Black Panther (2018). Those who watched and especially those who are fans, cannot help but feel something strong with the scenes.
With the coronavirus pandemic, there was not only the closing of cinemas, but a delay in the recording of films. The new Marvel video, recalls that this is a temporary situation, that we will not only overcome this moment, but we will be able to return to the routine of before. And that our favorite heroes will be there, waiting for us to meet again, as a family.
'We are going to escape, to get lost in a story, to feel connected, to share moments that we will remember forever ”, with these phrases on the screen, Marvel sums up what is the essence of cinema for all of us.
After paying a beautiful tribute to the cinemas with all these elements, the video continues to reveal news for this year and for the next, with the MCU phase 4 films (Marvel Cinematic Universe - Marvel Cinematic Universe).
And it starts with scenes from Black Widow, which will be released on July 9 this year. This film was one of the ones that suffered the most from the coronavirus pandemic, with a series of postponements, but it will finally be released. Black Widow will tell the story of Natasha Romanoff and the events with her between the films Civil War and Infinite War.
Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson (Story of a Marriage and Jojo Rabbit) in the role of the main Natasha Romanoff. Other names to appear in the film are Florence Pugh (Lovely Women), Rachel Weisz (The Faithful Gardener) and David Harbor (Stranger Things). The film will be released simultaneously in theaters and on the Disney + Streaming platform, but like the releases by Raya and Mulan, you will have to pay an additional subscription fee to gain access.
The video then follows with scenes of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, next release after Black Widow, on September 3 this year. The film will introduce a new hero to the Universe, Shang Chi, son of the already known villain Mandarin.
Shang Chi was trained from a young age in the martial arts with his father, to take over the Organization of the Ten Rings when the time came. However, he sees that his father is not exactly a “good man” and refuses to take his place. The hero is also known as "Master of Kung Fu".
It is not yet known where Shang Chi enters the timeline of Marvel films, being a mystery even to the biggest fans, translating this doubt into expectations for the launch of the work.
The film features Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience) in the main role of Shang Chi, as well as Awkwafina (The Farewell) and Tony Leung (Love for the Fur).
After Shang Chi, some new features appear in the video: the first preview of The Eternals, a film directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao (Nomadland). The release of Os Eternos will be on November 5 of this year.
The unpublished scenes contain a sample of Angelina Jolie's participation in the role of Thena.
The Eternals tells about a race of immortal superhumans, genetically modified by gods known as Celestials and their fight against their main enemies: the Deviants, a kind of flawed experiment by the Celestials themselves.
The cast of The Eternals has strong names, such as the aforementioned Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Gemma Chan (Humans), Salma Hayek (Frida), Kumail Nanjiani (Sick in Love), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), among others.
A curiosity about The Eternals, is that the film will feature the first LGBT hero in the Universe, in addition to the first hearing impaired heroine, the film therefore promises to break paradigms.
Want more curiosity? Has! The actress Gemma Chan, who will play Sersi, one of the main characters of The Eternals, has already made an appearance in Marvel films, exactly in Captain Marvel, which could confuse viewers. The confusion, however, should not happen, because the characterizations are completely different, and it is possible to differentiate the two characters well.
"What the future brings, it will be worth the wait". With these phrases, new titles are introduced with premieres planned and also without prediction, without scenes, starting with Spider Man: No Way Home (still unnamed in Brazil), to be released later this year on December 17th.
No Way Home will bring actor Tom Holland back in the role of Peter Parker, as well as Zendaya (Euphoria), Jamie Foxx (Annie), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Alfred Molina (Frida), among others.
This film caused some controversy, since Marvel came to abandon the project, but went back after the reaction of the fans.
We continue with a flood of names and dates, titles still without an official name in Portuguese: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (something like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), to be released on March 25, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder (Love and Thunder), scheduled for release May 6, 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, July 8, 2022, The Marvels, November 11, 2022, Ant-man and the Wasp ( Ant-Man and the Wasp): Quantumania, February 17, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, May 5, 2023, plus an appearance of the Fantastic Four logo, indicating a possible new film .
The video ends with the phrase “I see you in theaters”. Be sure to watch the video, which is full of emotions and striking scenes not only from the Marvel Universe but also from the cinema as a whole!
What is known about these films?
The Doctor Strange sequel will take place after the events of Ultimatum. Little is known about the film, but some curiosities are that it will relate to the Disney + WandaVision series, with the appearance of Wanda Maximoff, and other characters in the series, in addition to also relating to the Loki series, scheduled for release in June. this year. It will also possibly be the first Marvel Universe movie with traces of horror.
Thor: Love and Thunder also takes place after the events of Ultimatum, where Thor is one of the few survivors. Having lost almost everything in the battle against Thanos, the film promises to be quite interesting. The curiosity is due to the return of Natalie Portman in the role of Jane Foster, becoming Thor's successor, with her powers.
The title of the new Black Panther film, Wakanda Forever, was released with this video. The work will be a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman, who played the hero in the 2018 film and ended up dying in 2020, a victim of cancer. It has already been revealed that the actor will not be replaced in the new film.
The Marvels is also an unprecedented title in the video, being the sequel to Captain Marvel. The title was well received by the public, and indicates the participation of Ms Marvel, Kamala Khan. Ms Marvel will be featured in a series named after Disney +, which is still in the process of being recorded. Also confirmed in this film was the appearance of Monica Rambeau, who used the code name Captain Marvel before Carol Danvers. Monica participated in the WandaVision series, suggesting a tie between the two works.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's third Ant-Man film was announced a while ago, and no news has been released. What is known about the film is that it will bring (again) questions related to time travel, the villain will be Kang the Conqueror, who has the power to travel through the ages and will be played by Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Contry). Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) also joins the cast of the film, replacing Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie Lang.
There is also little information about the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which has so far had no approximate release date. But fans can rest assured that Guardians of the Galaxy will happen!
This will possibly be the last film in the series, as there are no plans for a fourth title, and director James Gunn has already announced that this will be his last work in the franchise and, if eventually a new Guardians of the Galaxy is released in the future, the formation of the team should be another.
Engaged in some controversies, Gunn had been fired from his position as director in June 2018. But he was rehired in March 2019, returning to the position.
Another curiosity is that Gunn himself has also stated that he will kill an important character in the new film. Fans place their bets on who will be the possible victim and what this could mean for the franchise.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
That Marvel has its own universe in the world of fiction you should already know. But do you know what it's called? It is the MCU, or in Portuguese, UCM, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Where everything is carefully planned and surgically connected.
The MCU is entirely based on Marvel Entertainment comics, and the films are produced by Marvel Studios, the first major independent Hollywood film studio since DreamWorks. Nowadays, Marvel Studios is part of Disney, launching its films and series from the giant.
Counting on the new titles announced in this Monday's video, there are already 33 films produced in total, divided into four phases. The first three phases are known as The Infinity Saga and phase four is due to start in theaters with the debut of Black Widow (in theory, the fourth phase started to be presented with the Disney + series, WandaVision).
The first phase started in May 2008, with the release of the first film in the Universe, Iron Man and consists of five other films: The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers .
The second phase started in April 2013 with the launch of Iron Man 3. Other titles in this phase are: Thor: The Dark World, Captain America 2 - The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Man- Ant.
The third phase started in April 2016 with Captain America: Civil War. The other films representing this phase are Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Ultimatum and Spider-Man: Far from Home.
Several series are also in the production process (pre or post) or about to be released, which will explain the entire Universe better, detailing even more the stories already known. Starting with WandaVision, which has already been released, and going through Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ms Marvel, Hawkeye, Armor Wars, What If…? and many others.
What can be expected from the Marvel Universe going forward, is the continuity of excellence and quality in their productions, and there is still much to come!
