In addition to a remake for Alan Wake, data miners have found mention of the Final Fantasy 7 remake coming to PC via Epic Games
Final Fantasy 7 looks like it's finally hitting the PC, at least if a possible leak in the Epic Games Store is believed. The error appears to have been made in the backend of the Epic Games Store, which seems to accidentally list the game as it's on its way. But the information is hidden, not visible to everyone.
found in EpicData, the name of the game was found in the archives in a title code-named 'Pineapple'. However, it appears that there was a small slip in CloudSaveFolder that reveals the Final Fantasy 7 Remake name. Although Epic Games has clearly tried to hide the game's name from the list, it seems they missed a reference.
The Final Fantasy 7 remake coming to the Epic Games Store isn't all that surprising based on past events. The PlayStation game's exclusivity is believed to have expired in April, but news about the game on other platforms has yet to be officially revealed. Since launch, we knew the exclusivity would be temporary, but we didn't know exactly how long that exclusivity was.
Epic-exclusive Final Fantasy 7 remake?
To give credence to this leak, there is the fact that Kingdom Hearts, also from Square, was released exclusively for the Epic Games Store. It appears that Square Enix has a store preference and/or Epic is paying handsomely to keep those games that have a huge exclusive fan base in their store. Either way, it would make sense for the Final Fantasy 7 remake to end up in the Epic window sooner or later.
Of course, none of this is confirmed, and it may be some kind of joker who is naming files and distributing images as if they were big revelations, we still don't have an official word from either Epic or Square Enix. However, that seems unlikely at this point. To give more strength to this news, in the same files were found mentions of the game Alan Wake Remastered.
Of course, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake recently receiving a PS5 update in Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, it would be interesting to see that, in addition to content, Square Enix would announce a PC version. We would imagine that a PC version would be graphically comparable to the PS5 version, but if it would come with the recent DLC Yuffie, can't we know? Until we hear official confirmation from Epic Games or Square-Enix, we'll have to be patient and wait to find out more.
Don't forget to get your Aerith gear.
Final Fantasy 7 is an RPG game developed and published by SquareSoft. It is the seventh major title in the Final Fantasy series and was originally released for PlayStation in 1997 and then also for Microsoft Windows the following year.
The story follows Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins an eco-terrorist organization in order to prevent Shinra's megacorporation from using the planet's vital essence as an energy source. Events put Cloud and his allies behind Sephiroth, a "superhuman" who wants to destroy the planet. The gameplay features navigation and exploration of different environments and a turn-based battle system.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been released for PlayStation 4 and is exclusive to the Sony console. The Intergrade version was released for PlayStation 5, but with graphics and performance improvements for the new generation. In addition to these game improvements, it will feature unprecedented additional content starring the rogue Yuffie.
