May 27th is the day that the franchise Dragon Quest 35 years ago and to celebrate the anniversary of the series, Square Enix presented a live broadcast featuring the Dragon Quest games currently in development. However, there is nothing that impressive.

It wasn't a very exciting broadcast for fans, and it showed just a mobile game, an update to an online game that won't be released worldwide, a remake of Dragon Quest 3 that will only reach consoles and a spin-off called Dragon Quest Treasures for unannounced platforms.

And then, the last announcement made at the end of the broadcast was a teaser that revealed the next game in the series - Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. The trailer, less than a minute long, showed the logo appearing in letters lit on cracked volcanic rocks, and a voice asked in Japanese: "What is the purpose of life?"

Back in the broadcast, presenter JOY tried to pull out some details from the creator of Dragon Quest, Yuji Horii, who gave only vague answers. "It's about having options," he said. "You have to choose your own way of playing." He confirmed "We are going to change the turn-based battle system", although he reassured old fans that they are not getting rid of the old system completely.

When asked what hardware Dragon Quest 12 would be released for, a dramatic whistle sounded to indicate that the question was not allowed. So no, there is no confirmation as to whether the game will be released for PC, although Dragon Quest 11 does. A simultaneous worldwide launch is being planned, although no specific dates have been announced.

Something that may please the most causal players is the announcement of Dragon Quest X Offline. Producer Takumi Shiraishi gave more information about this game:

“As you may have guessed from the title, this is a new version of Dragon Quest X Online, in which you will not need an internet connection to play. We are looking to create an independent version of Dragon Quest X that is easy to learn and play - and as you saw in the promotional video, one with a different [visual] style than the online cousin. ”

The Saga to Dragon Quest 12

Launched in 1986 and called Dragon Warrior in the West, Dragon Quest is a series of electronic role-playing games produced by Enix (currently called Square Enix), being one of the most famous and best-selling role-playing games in Japan. as character design the mangaka Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball series, songs composed by Koichi Sugiyama and game design by Yuji Horii. Yuto Sakurai celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Franchise

The first game in the series, tells the story of the descendant of the legendary hero Roto, against the evil Ryuou, the Dragon King and this saga lasted until the third game in the franchise, where the Tenkuu saga (called Celeste) begins, and it lasts until the sixth game. The seventh and eighth sagas have entirely new stories.

Here in Brazil, the series was quite popular during the 90s, when the anime “Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken” was broadcast on Saturday mornings on SBT and which here became known as “Fly - The Little Warrior”, which despite of the success, it was canceled and never got to have the end of the manga adapted for anime and ended only with a narration after a battle.
