Announced at Gamescom 2021, Hearth & Home, Valheim's first major update, will be released on September 16th
Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio are pleased to announce that Hearth & Home, Valheim's first major update, will be released on September 16th with a party of new features, at the wish of All Father. Revealed with an animated trailer that aired on Gamescom's opening night, the critically acclaimed co-op open world survival game will receive its first major update to bring a wealth of new content beyond the Norse.
The new trailer follows the lonely journey of a fearless Viking who single-handedly killed the mighty Moder, and is now traveling back home. Upon arrival, a lavish feast awaits in a large room, giving fans a cinematic preview of one of the themes in the new Heart & Home update: Food! While players will have to wait until September 16 to find and experience all the new content firsthand, Valheim's first major update focuses on improving the survivability and main base building mechanics. Hearth & Home aims to give Vikings even more tools to create the cabin of their dreams and prepare an Aesir-worthy feast.
Hearth & Home in the home of the Vikings
Several features introduced in Hearth & Home have already been revealed by the development team on Steam and social media, including new kitchen extensions to introduce spices, butcher tables, pots and pans. The new tools complement the redesigned power system that not only introduced new recipes, but also now offers players more exciting options with an improved health and stamina system.
The power system has been improved and will now have a significant impact on players' combat experience, allowing them to perfectly balance their Viking diet to suit their playing style, while additional changes to shields and blocking mechanics will give players even more epic battles for Bragi's storytellers to create their songs.
A treasure cave with new building pieces will also be added, including the literal treasure chest for the Vikings to store their hard-won gold – a treasure inside a chest made of treasures by the gods! Completely new window hatches and dark wood materials were also previously revealed.
Released on Steam Early Access in February of this year, Valheim became an instant hit, as players flocked to settle in the afterlife and fight together against the greatest creatures of Norse mythology. We're talking about a game initially developed by just five people, Valheim has sold over seven million copies in less than two months and peaked at over 500.000 simultaneous players, becoming the fifth game to reach that mark in the platform's history Steam.
Get ready for Valheim's biggest update
“One of the most exciting things we saw when we opened the door to Valheim was the incredible creativity of the community, and we immediately wanted to give players even more power to express themselves and create the farm of their dreams.”, said Henrik Törnqvist, Co Founder of Iron Gate Studio. "Although it's a little later than expected, the community has been fantastic, understanding that we wanted Hearth & Home to be perfect and, in turn, we've listened to our amazing community to continue building Valheim with everyone and everyone."
Albert Säfström, CEO of Coffee Stain Publishing, added, “As a major first update, it's always been essential that Hearth & Home improve on the core gameplay that made fans fall in love with Valheim in the first place, while adding new content and mechanics that make the game even deeper. While there's a lot more to come from Valheim, it's the first step towards unlocking the full potential of this game through Early Access, and we're looking forward to seeing players experience it all when the update comes out.”
Odin's Ravens will deliver the Valheim Hearth & Home update on Thursday, September 16th on Steam.
