After weeks of rumors and speculation - also known as unfortunate leaks – Warner Bros. Games has officially unveiled MultiVersus, a new platform fighting game starring many familiar super Smash Bros-style faces. and Brawhalla which will bring together famous characters from different franchises in online combat.
The reveal trailer, presented by Player First Games co-founder and game director Tony Huynh, details the game's focus on competitive team-based online play, with a 2v2 format as its main mode. There will be other modes like 1v1 or four players. The game will be free for everyone on all platforms. In the trailer, Tony also says that the game will be for those who prefer solo competition, but he didn't detail how the solo game will work.
The roster includes many iconic characters from across the Warner Bros. portfolio, including Batman and Superman from DC Comics, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. Shaggy, most importantly, is equipped with Ultra Instinct powers (a reference to Dragon Ball Super) – bringing the meme to life for the first time outside of a simple easter egg – as well as a projectile blow where he throws a sandwich.
MultiVersus will have the original character voices
MultiVersus will also feature a full voice cast featuring many of the characters' original actors, including Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Kevin Conroy as Batman and John Dimaggio as Jake the Dog. confirms that more characters will come before the game launches. For example, a recent leak showed Rick and Morty's Rick Sanchez among the cast, but he is not in the opening trailer. Each character revealed so far, and their voice actors, are listed below.

“MultiVersus is a dream project for our team at Player First Games, and we look forward to officially unveiling the game,” said Huynh in the official press release. “We designed MultiVersus from the ground up to be a cooperative social game that embraces teamwork and strategy. We're also focused on providing world-class online gameplay through a dedicated server-based rollback network code so friends and rivals can enjoy an ongoing competitive experience as they battle our diverse roster of characters.”
MultiVersus is scheduled for release in 2022 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC, with "full cross-play support, dedicated server-based rollback netcode, and content-packed seasons." As we can imagine, a free multiplayer game will certainly have microtransactions in the content store. It is possible that the game has skins for characters, weapons and scenarios. All that's left is to wait to find out.
