Best Comedy Movies on Amazon Prime
Free Guy – Taking Control
So that our list is not just focused on the classics, and believe me, there will be many, let's start with this action and comedy film starring Ryan Reinolds, Jodie Comer and Taika Watiti. Guy is a GTA and Fortnite-style game NPC who somehow gets out of his schedule and acts as an advocate for other NPCs to impress a girl he's in love with. The problem is, he doesn't know he's an NPC, that the world is a game, or that MolotovGirl is a real-world player. Discovering this and preventing the game from shutting down is what moves the plot forward.
Hit or run
What a fun and funny movie you can find in this 2000 comedy, starring Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu and Owen Wilson. Chan's physical style and Wilson's goofy personality form a truly hysterical duo in this western martial arts comedy that combines Chan's incredible skill with a more traditional comedy style about a guard from China's Forbidden City going to the Old West American to save your princess. It's an underrated movie and really hard to not like.
A critical comedy and acid in its essence, Parasite de Bong Joon-ho received worldwide acclaim at Cannes and at the Oscars for his creative critiques of today's capitalism. The film follows a low-income family on their mission to infiltrate the home of a wealthy family, getting them jobs. The film is an urgent watch, as its message applies not just to the South Korean landscape, but to our growing wealth gap around the world. You'll laugh, but then you'll wonder what's happening to the world.
Neurotic Groom, Nervous Bride
This is one of those movies that the translated name has nothing to do with the original, which is, simply, Annie Hall. Annie Hall won awards for Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress, and even Best Picture. The film tells the story of Alvy Singer (Woody Allen), a divorced Jewish comedian who has been doing analysis for fifteen years. He ends up falling in love with Annie Hall (Diane Keaton), a singer in the beginning of her career, and with a slightly complicated mind. Soon they are living together and it doesn't take long for a period of marital crisis to begin.
Four Weddings and a Funeral
From the golden age of 90s romantic comedies, Four Weddings and a Funeral helped make Hugh Grant one of Hollywood's most sigh-worthy stars and was Grant's first collaboration with writer Richard Curtis (A place called Notting Hill). As the title suggests, the film follows the character of Grant, Charles, and his friend as the experience changes relationships over four weddings and a funeral. In the first, he meets an American woman (Andie MacDowell) who becomes “the one who ran away” – until they meet again. It's a classic comedy about gawky 20-somethings with above-average wit, and it still has an impact a quarter of a century later.
The House of Bunnies
Don't be fooled by bad reviews: if you're looking to laugh without a lot of work, The House of Bunnies it's a simple movie with some hidden comedy gems. With stellar early-career performances by Anna Faris and Emma Stone, among others, The House of Bunnies follows Farris as ex-Playboy Bunny Shelley, who unexpectedly finds herself in a new house full of women - geek fraternity Zeta Alpha Zeta. In need of promising new girls, the fraternity calls on Shelley to be its savior muse in the renewal of a dysfunctional community.
Back to school
In this 1986 story of a rich guy (Rodney Dangerfield) returns to college to show solidarity with his son (Keith Gordon) and becomes involved in a series of wacky events only to discover that not everything is for sale. Some of the jokes here are severely dated, but it's worth taking a look just to remind yourself how much Dangerfield was one of the biggest stars in the world. Give the man the respect he deserves.

500 days with her
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel star in Marc Webb's debut film that became an independent hit. JGL tells the story of a found love and a lost love in a film that grossed over $60 million worldwide on a budget that was only a fraction of that. A huge fan favorite, he also received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Screenplay.
Ben Stiller treads a fine line between satire and offensive in his showbiz comedy Tropical Thunder. Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Jay Baruchel and Brandon T. Jackson play the cast of an action movie who ends up stranded in the jungle and terrified by its megalomaniac director (Steve Coogan).
Stiller uses problematic elements (including keeping Downey's character blackfaced throughout the film) to comment on Hollywood's excesses and insensitivity, while creating a fast-paced and often hilarious action comedy, opening our list of Amazon's best comedy movies Prime.
Irene the stubborn
In the midst of the Great Depression, Hollywood movies provided an escape for the public, but My Man Godfrey derives its comedy from the Depression itself. The film doesn't minimize the seriousness of poverty and uses the upper-class Bullock family to poke fun at legitimate privileges amid social woes, making it one of Amazon Prime's best comedy films.
William Powell plays the title character, a “forgotten man” who becomes the Bullocks' butler and falls in love with Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard). Godfrey turns the situation in his favor, proving to be smarter and more resourceful than the rich people who see him as an object of pity.
burn after reading
The Coen brothers present one of their darkest and most absurd comedies with Burn After Reading. A labyrinthine story involving the attempted extortion of government agents by a pair of ambitious but dumb gym workers, Burn After Reading is full of ridiculous twists and sudden violence, all in search of high-level secrets that don't really exist.
Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand are hilarious as everyday losers who think they've stumbled on confidential information, and the movie gets funnier as the characters get more desperate and confused, deserving of being among Amazon's best comedy movies Prime.
Beavis and Butt-head Conquer America
Mike Judge's stupid animated creations went from MTV to a feature film in Beavis and Butt-Head Conquer America. Vulgar teenage metalheads Beavis and Butt-Head (both voiced by Judge) end up on an odyssey across America when all they want to do is replace the missing TV.
The film features the same witty, mindless humor as the series, making it one of the best comedy movies on Amazon Prime, with the idiot title characters inadvertently exposing the foolishness of people far smarter than they are. Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and David Letterman join the voice cast to add to the idiocy.
The Addams Family
Charles Addams' spooky, eccentric, mysterious, spooky and totally eccentric comic book creations come to life in Barry Sonnenfeld's delicious live action film version of the Addams Family.
Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston are perfectly cast in the roles of the morbid, loving couple Gomez and Morticia Addams, with Christina Ricci in her role as the expressionless daughter, making a great cast in one of the best comedy films on Amazon Prime. The plot involves the family reconnecting with long-lost Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd), perhaps the weirdest Addams of them all.
The Big Sick
Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon turn their real-life trauma into a sweet and funny romantic comedy with The Big Sick. Kumail falls in love with Emily (Zoe Kazan), and then must deal with her family, as well as her career and commitment issues when she is suddenly stricken with a mysterious illness.
Alexander Payne's cynical comedy Election stars Reese Witherspoon as the relentless and ambitious high school student Tracy Flick. Flick's candidacy for class president attracts the animosity of her civics teacher (Matthew Broderick). The rivalry between the excited student and the embittered teacher is caustic and intelligent, with an affable football player (Chris Klein) in the middle.
His Girl Friday
Possibly the ultimate wacky comedy from the heyday of 1940s wacky comedy, His Girl Friday is a dizzying romantic comedy with sophisticated banter between former spouses (and current co-workers) played by Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, making it a classic among the best Amazon Prime comedy movies.
Grant's newspaper editor and Russell's reporter to the stars are constantly at odds over their relationship and the story they're covering, and those sparks eventually turn into a rekindled romance.
The 1980s was a golden age for teen comedies. Heathers is the black sheep of the day, a dark comedy starring Winona Ryder as a miserable, popular girl and Christian Slater as the outcast bad boy who dates her and then uses her to get revenge on his insipid classmates. It's full of fun and petty jokes, offering an exhilarating glimpse into the inanity of teenage life.
Love and friendship
Writer and director Whit Stillman adapts Jane Austen's earlier and lesser-known novel Lady Susan as Love and Friendship, a sour comedy about social escalation and romantic machinations. Kate Beckinsale puts on one of her best performances as the conniving Lady Susan, who is always quick to hit a blast, and the tone is sharper and sharper than a typical Austen adaptation.
Borat's Next Cinema Tape
Released from prison by the government of Kazakhstan, comedian Borat risks his life returning to the United States with his 15-year-old daughter. This time, he reveals more about American culture and talks about elections and the Covid-19 pandemic. This is certainly among the best comedy movies in the Amazon Prime.
Between Knives and Secrets
After turning 85, Harlan Thrombey, a famous writer of detective stories, is found dead. Hired to investigate the case, Detective Benoit Blanc discovers that, between the mysterious employees and Harlan's conflicted family, everyone can be considered suspects in the crime.
General Aladeen has been the dictator of the Republic of Wadiya in Africa since he was six years old. Threatened with death, he is advised by an uncle to go to New York and ends up meeting exiled compatriots in the city. Sacha Baron Cohen once again teaching a humo lesson in what is one of the best comedy films on Amazon Prime.
When they are laid off, two men in their 40s start looking for a new job. Despite not knowing anything about technology, they are hired as interns at Google, where they live with bosses twenty years younger than they are.
The grumpy Grinch does everything to end Christmas for the citizens of Quemlândia. His plan is to steal from people everything that has to do with the date, until the girl Cindy Lou Who decides to be friends with him. The film that adapts the book by American author Dr. Sauss is one of those that Jim Carrey made at the height of his fame in the nineties, after The Mask and the bomb that was Batman Forever.
little big life
In the city of Omaha, people discover the possibility of downsizing to a tiny version in order to spend less money living in small communities that span the world. A man agrees to go through this process.
A Prince in New York 2
The film is a sequel to those that were speculated for years and never came out, like A Cop Dame and other classics by Eddie Murphy and, almost 30 years later, it hit the screen. In the luxurious country of Zamunda's royalty, the newly crowned King Akeem discovers that he has a son he does not know and that he may be heir to the throne. Akeem and his confidant Semmi embark on a hilarious journey that takes them around the world: from their great African nation, back to Queens, New York. Recently released, it deserves to be among the best comedy films on Amazon Prime.
