Dead by Daylight: Learn more

Gameplay

A group of up to four survivors must flee from an assassin. The survivors' perspective is third-person, while the killer's perspective is first-person. Survivors cannot fight the killer and can only survive by running and hiding from them. They must use obstacles in the form of wooden pallets, windows and items they find inside chests or bring before the game starts to run from the assassin for as long as they can.

To escape, survivors must either fix a total of five generators scattered across the map to activate the exit gates, then they must open the exit gates and exit the area, or alternatively find a hatch that randomly appears on the map to escape .

Survivors

Players take on the role of one of the 24 survivors, Dwight Fairfield, Meg Thomas, Claudette Morel, Jake Park, Nea Karlsson, Laurie Strode, William 'Bill' Overbeck, Ace Visconti, Feng Min, David King, Quentin Smith, David Tapp, Kate Denson, Adam Francis, Jeff Johansen, Jane Romero, Ash Williams, Steve Harrington, Nancy Wheeler, Yui Kimura, Zarina Kassir, Cheryl Mason, Felix Ritcher, and Élodie Rakoto. The objective of the survivors is to escape from the closed area, which can be done in two ways: repairing five broken generators to power two exit gate levers; or escaping through the hatch.

The hatch opens only when there is only one survivor left in the game. Survivors will need a key to open the hatch if there is more than one person alive. Killer can close the hatch. The survivors' movement options consist of running, walking, crouching, or crawling. They must evade and outwit the assassin, losing their line of sight in pursuit or successfully hiding from them.

Murderers

Alternatively, players assume the role of one of the 22 assassins, the Hunter, the Specter, the Hillbilly, the Nurse, the Shade, the Witch, the Doctor, the Huntress, the Cannibal, the Nightmare, the Sow, the Clown, the Spirit, the Legion, the Plague, the Ghostface, the Demogorgon, the Oni, the Mercenary, the Executioner, the Scourge and the Gemini. Most assassins have only one form of locomotion, moving at an accelerated pace, which is moderately faster than the pace of a running survivor.

When hunting the survivors, the assassin must either capture them or strike them twice with the weapon (the first strike reduces the survivor's health status from “healthy” to “wounded” and pushes them a short distance in front of the assassin, while the second blow takes them to the “dying” state where the survivor slowly crawls on the floor) or grabs them in certain moves, catches them inside lockers, while trying to jump over pallets or through windows (the action of grapple only works when the survivor is injured), while repairing a generator, or trying to rescue a survivor from a grapple.

Some assassins have secondary attacks that deal double damage and put survivors into the “dying” state in just one attack. Every assassin has a secondary ability, called "power". Every power is unique. For example, the Shade can turn invisible and move faster by ringing its bell (but unable to attack survivors while hidden), and the Hillbilly uses a chainsaw that allows him to run quickly across the map and instantly take down survivors with it. . Powers can be enhanced using complements that are purchased from the blood web.

The Assassin's objective is to sacrifice the survivors to the Entity, a malevolent being that dominates the realm in which Dead by Daylight takes place. Trapped survivors are placed on butcher hooks located throughout the match territory, which initiates the sacrificial process, which will take two minutes to complete without any outside influence. Some special add-ons, perks, or offerings called 'Memento Mori' allow the assassin to skip the sacrificial process and kill a survivor directly with their bare hands, with a special animation.

The first time a survivor is hooked, he enters the first phase. In this phase, the survivor can attempt a low (4%) chance of escaping the hook on their own at the cost of tremendously speeding up the sacrifice process to the second phase by failing to escape. Hooked survivors can also be rescued by other survivors. Specific offerings and perks can increase the chance of escaping the hook alone.

If the survivor escapes or is saved and is eventually hooked a second time, he enters the 'fight phase', in which the survivor has to resist the Entity by trying to stab them by quickly pressing the spacebar, X or A, depending on the platform, until they are saved by an ally or killed by the 'Entity'. If the survivor is saved during the 'fight phase' and is hooked a third time, he will die to the Entity instantly with no chance of survival.

The assassin, despite walking faster than the survivors, is slower than the survivors on most other moves: after hitting a survivor, the assassin will slow down his movement speed to clean the blood off his weapon. The assassin is also slower at jumping windows and cannot jump over pallets that survivors can throw in his path (with the exception of the Legion), instead the assassins have to circle around or spend some time destroying them.

The assassin also has an aura reading ability, constantly revealing the location of generators, bewitched totems and, when carrying a survivor, hooks across the map. A mechanism was added in Patch 1.5.0 that introduced the 'Blood Thirst' mechanic.

For 15 seconds in a chase without using the power, breaking or being stunned by pallets, or attacking a survivor, the assassin gains a boost of 0,2 m/sec at his base movement speed; 30 seconds into a chase grants the assassin a 0,4 m/sec boost; and finally, if a chase lasts 45 consecutive seconds, the assassin receives a boost of 0,6 m/sec. The bloodlust only lasts until a chase ends or until the assassin performs some of the aforementioned actions. Via: Wikipedia

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer asymmetric survival horror game developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by Starbreeze Studios. Dead by Daylight was released on Microsoft Windows operating system in June 2016, released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in June 2017, released for Nintendo Switch in September 2019 and for Android and iOS as Beta in the second half of 2019 with release for April 16, 2020.

The game was also released to Stadia on October 1, 2020 as a redeemable game for Stadia Pro users and utilizing one of Stadia's specific features, Crowd Choice, which allows viewers of a YouTube broadcast to control some youtuber choices. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game were released with the consoles. Dead by Daylight is played exclusively one player against four, where one player takes the role of the wild assassin, and the other four players play as survivors, trying to escape the assassin, repairing five generators and opening the exit gates to avoid being caught, hooked. and sacrificed.

As a survivor, you can play alone or with friends to face an unknown assassin. Survivors can use items, unlocked abilities and objects from the environment to outwit the assassin and escape their territory. Placed on procedurally generated maps, the objects of the world are randomly generated, so it is not possible to know what you are facing and how to escape.

Every decision affects your chances of survival. Each survivor has three unique abilities that will give them an advantage as the game progresses. These unique abilities can later be unlocked on other survivors. Items also give you game advantages; with a flashlight, for example, you can blind the killer out of sight. It is possible to acquire items such as flashlights, toolbox and first aid box by finding them in chests or acquiring them with blood points in the blood web.
