More about pool
Snooker is a table, club and ball sport practiced in Brazil, and is a variant of pool, a table game invented in 1875 in Great Britain. In this game, two opponents try to place the colored (non-white) balls in one of the six holes on the table in the sequence defined by the rules. It can be played individually or in pairs or with 3 players and 15 balls on the table 5 balls for balls number 1 to 5, 6 to 10 and so on. On a table measuring 2,84 mx 1,42 m (Brazilian measure), eight balls are placed, with scores from 1 (red) to 8 (black) plus the white ball.
The rules in force in Brazil are slightly different from those of the pool practiced in the rest of the world: the cue ball is used to propel the others to one of the six pockets on the table. The colored ball with the lowest score on the table is called the time ball, that is, they must be pocketed in increasing numerical sequence. It is free, that is, the player does not lose points if he makes a mistake when he tries to pocket (kill) this ball.
If an out-of-turn ball is pocketed, it returns to the table in its previous position. The original English table has more than 50 centimeters, both in width and in length, with 15 red balls (ball 1) instead of just one, as in Brazil, and different rules for our adaptation. Today, there is a tendency, mainly in official championships, to play according to the “English rule” (see description of the same in snooker), aiming to internationalize Brazilian athletes.
Each potted pool ball has a score to be given to the player. The scores normally followed are listed below: Red – 1 point; Yellow – 2 points; Green – 3 points; Brown – 4 points; Blue – 5 points; Pink – 6 points; Black – 7 points. Penalties – 7 points
