Each generation of Pokémon games in the main series brings something new to the table – a slew of regional Pokémon to add to your team, new faces in the gyms and Elite Four, and sometimes innovative elements and style changes like Pokémon Sword and Shield' s Wild Areas and dynamization. But from what we've seen so far, Pokémon Legends Arceus is set to deviate from the standard Pokémon gaming mold and give players a totally unique Pokémon training experience.
Scheduled for release in 2022, Pokémon Legends Arceus is being touted as a "new approach to the Pokémon video game series." Players will be returning to the Sinnoh region from the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl games, but long before the events of those titles. Borrowing elements from Nintendo's ultra-popular Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game appears to be an open-world adventure with more opportunities for exploration than previous Pokémon titles.
Although the official details of the game are limited to an announcement trailer and a few additional notes from Nintendo, there's a lot to unravel and a lot of fan speculation about what this new Pokémon adventure will be like. Here's everything we know about Pokémon Legends Arceus so far.
Release Date – Pokémon Legends Arceus
Pokémon Legends Arceus will be released in 28 January 2022.
This will come just a few months after Nintendo released Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl on November 19, making it a very exciting release combination for Pokémon trainers.
Pokémon Legends Arceus will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
The first trailer begins with a narrator explaining that the events in Pokémon Legends Arceus take place "a long, long time ago, when the Sinnoh region was still just a vast desert." Cut to a Breath of the Wild-style scene and wild Pokémon wandering the landscape uninhibited, just like they do in New Pokémon Snap.
It looks like catching wild Pokémon will be very different – players will be able to hunt Pokémon packs from a third-person perspective and launch Poké Balls in possible real-time captures, as opposed to the turn-based battle sequences in other games. It looks like battles with wild Pokémon will take place without a cut to a separate battle screen.
Instead of a new trio of Pokémon starters as the kickoff as in every game, it looks like beginners to Pokémon Legends Arceus will be a mix of beginners from previous generations – Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott will be the starters for this game.
At the end of the trailer, the book the narrator is reading from is closed. Our vision filled with smoke for a moment before revealing the mythical Pokémon Arceus. Final scene.
The trailer shown at Nintendo's August event began with an equally cryptic message, this time stating, "This is a story from a long time ago, when the lives of humans and Pokémon were still separate." Finally, we know the name of the region we are going to explore, which is called the Hisui region and, in the future, will become the Sinnoh region.
We then see a variety of locations and Pokémon, including fields, snowy landscapes and moonlit forests before we get our first real glimpse of civilization. This city, the village of Jubilee, which is very inspired by Japanese historical architecture, seems to be full of characters that we can interact with from the Galaxy Expedition team, consisting of a medical corps, security corps and a research corps led by Cullen.
Our resident teacher this time is Professor Laventon, who studies Pokémon ecology and will provide you with your first Pokémon. The Galaxy Expedition team is led by Kamado, who will recruit you as a member.
With previous versions of Pokémon, we were able to successfully take over what the plot will look like – you start in a small town and build your Pokémon squad while facing the challenge of the gym leader and eventually the Elite Four while fighting some kind of criminal organization, its rival and many coaches in between.
We know the game will revolve around creating the region's first Pokédex, a task likely given to you by a Pokémon teacher who has yet to be named. Will there be some kind of gym challenge? We are not sure.
From previously established Pokémon tradition, we know that Arceus is believed to have created the Sinnoh region and possibly the entire Pokémon world; the guardians of Lake Uxie, Azelf and Mesprit; and the creation trio Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. It is considered one of the oldest Pokémon in existence. Where we fit into Arceus' timeline in this game isn't completely clear, but we're very excited to find out.

While the term “open world” hasn't been used to describe the game in any official capacity, it sure feels like it will, which means more exploration and freedom than any previous Pokémon title.
The fundamentals of Pokémon games have also changed in this game. We see our trainer sneaking up on Pokémon through the tall grass and capturing them with Poké Balls from a distance without going into battle. Some may flee when they spot you, others attack, and some simply can't be caught without a fight.
However, the battles certainly still exist, as throwing a Poké Ball near an enemy Pokémon will trigger a traditional turn-based fight on the field, where you'll have a chance to capture your target.
While the turn-based style remains, some new battle features have been added, such as a turn order on the right side of the screen. Rather than taking turns, some Pokémon are faster and can take several turns before others, so pay close attention to the order of action. You can influence the order by choosing to use either the strong style move, which is stronger but slower, or the agile style, which is weaker but faster.
In addition to running and rolling across the land, you can also fly with the help of your Pokemon. Using a hang gliding device, your trainer can be carried through the air, or ride through oceans and rivers and even along the ground itself, with the help of different riding Pokémon. Considering the scale of the world we've been shown, this will likely be an important resource to get around.
Base camps are where you can stock up on supplies like Poké Balls while you're out in the field, or even create your own from materials you've collected around the world. Resting at a base camp will also heal your party of Pokémon that have been damaged in battle.
There are no clear glimpses of multiplayer action in the Pokémon Legends Arceus announcement trailer, but all Pokémon games in the main series so far have had the option to fight and trade with friends. Let's assume that Pokémon Legends Arceus will include multiplayer action.
There are usually two versions of a game in each generation, and trading Pokémon with other players was essential to filling your Pokédex.
While there wasn't anything included in the trailer that looked like the Wild Area of Pokémon Sword and Shield, where players could mix, mix, swap, and battle with ease, we hope there are similar elements included in this new game.
There's no word on the DLC content yet, as the game isn't close to release. Of course, Pokémon Sword and Shield saw two DLC expansions in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. This introduced players to new areas in the region, gave them access to wild new Pokémon, and unlocked fantastic multiplayer options.
You can order Pokémon Legends Arceus at various resellers from outside Brazil. There has been no bonus content announced for pre-ordering the game, but that could change as the release date approaches.
