Bioware has released some major changes to its remastered version of Commander Shepard’s saga in Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Undoubtedly Mass Effect is one of the most influential and celebrated games in the history of Western RPGs, alongside other great titles such as Dragon Age, The Witcher and Skyrim. An epic story told over three titles that involved our entire galaxy in a fight for the survival of all species, striking characters with personality and decisions that significantly impacted the end of the game and could make you lose one or the other companion along the way. Whoever plays the famous Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission knows what to “work under pressure”.
And now, it all comes to the new generation with improved graphics and new features to make what was good even better. On the 12th, Mac Walters, director of the studio, who confirmed that the game is ready to be released on PCs and consoles and will be released to the public on the previously scheduled date.
Bioware released some of the changes that occurred in the remastered version of one of its main successes. In Mass Effect Legendary Edition, you'll relive Commander Shepard's battle to save humanity from the Reapers, an alien race that has come from generation to generation to “reboot” civilizations that become very powerful.
In addition to the changes disclosed, and some foreign media outlets, such as IGN, gained access to the game and made a video showing the games side by side, so that we can see the graphic changes and adjustments made in the game, especially in the first title of the series, that received the most significant changes.
What changes in Mass Effect Legendary
In particular, the team responsible for Mass Effect Legendary gave a lot of attention to the character models, with emphasis on the female version of Shepard that did not gain its iconic look until the third version of the game. In the remaster, you can play with the look of Jane Shepard's third game since Mass Effect 1.
Textures, lighting, loading time in the elevator and even the game interface have been adapted for the current platforms. Customization options for the characters have also been improved and the clothes you wore in previous games are available from the beginning.
Another detail that caught the attention of the players during the presentation of the game was the absence of multiplayer from the third game. Online matches increased Via Lactea's "readiness" for the confrontation with the Reapers and ensured that the player could see the best end of the game, but due to initial problems, they added a "War Assets" system, which helped in the development of the game. story and ensured that you release the correct endings.
In addition, the DLC Pinnacle Station, where players competed to stay on top of a shooting gallery's score at a secret Alliance training station, is not present in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition because, according to Ryan Warden, one of game producers, the files have been corrupted. Strangely, shortly after that statement, he deleted the tweet.
Another adjustment made to the (in) fame M-35 Mako. The first Mass Effect vehicle was "calibrated" (Garrus? Was it you?) To perform better. In the original game, Mako's physical fit made him look very light and, at times (almost always), he became uncontrollable, but now Bioware promises a “much smoother ride” and even more “adorable” as before . Yes, you can still climb cliffs.
Shield reloading will now be faster and new thrusters have been added to the rear, allowing for increased speed when you are inevitably trying to scale the side of an almost vertical cliff. The refill of this boost is independent of the jump jets at the bottom of the vehicle, so you can use both at the same time or separately.
Some changes were also added to the combat system, allowing all classes to use weapons without punishment, more ammunition in certain locations (however, Mass Effect 1 weapons continue to use the cooldown system and not the thermal clips), stability in the aim of rifles, improvement in the coverage system and in melee attacks.

Mass Effect's journey
The first game in the franchise was released in 2007, by Bioware exclusively for Xbox 360 and ported to Pc by Demiurge Studios (also responsible for the DLC Pinnacle Station) and to PlayStation 3 by Edge of Reality, and was born thanks to the end of the license of the use of characters from the Star Wars franchise.
The Knights of the Old Republic series was a success and a third game was planned, but due to the end of licensing, the company decided to force on its own IP. The highlight was due to the character's morality system, which was very simple in Kotor, oscillating only between the dark or luminous side of the Force.
In Mass Effect, the developers wanted to go beyond good and evil, allowing their decisions to reflect on their relationships with NPCs and their companions during their journey. Killing or sparing an enemy can have consequences in the future, just as punching or not punching a meddling reporter can guarantee support or disapproval for the protagonist's attitudes.
Shepard, had his name chosen in honor of Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr., the second person and the first American in space (May 5, 1961). He later commanded the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, and became the fifth person to walk on the moon. The face of the Shepard man is based on the Dutch model Mark Vanderloo.
The characters' voices are made by actors Mark Meer, who has played in games from the Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights franchises, and Jennifer Hale, who has worked on Metal Gear Solid, Metroid Prime, Bioshoch Infinity, Overwatch, as well as a series of TV as the Avatar: last Master of the air and the Legend of Korra and Powerpuff Girls.
And despite the controversies about “who is the canonical Shepard” and the male version of the character stamping the covers of the first games, Shepard was born as a woman. Jonathan Cooper, animator, released images of the first movement tests were used based on a female model taken from the game Jade Empire.
Another highlight of the Mass Effect series, as well as several other Bioware games, is the possibility for the player to get romantically involved with people and aliens of both genders. A player can choose between several NPCs to develop a romance, some of which can relate only to a male or female Shepard or both, which allows for an infinite number of different ending possibilities, depending on the relationship of your Shepard with the ship's NPCs. Normandy.
Talking about games: Mass Effect 1
Accompany Commander Shepard (names can be changed, but by default they are John and Jane, although no one calls you by their first name) on their journey in search of the truth about the threat known as the Reapers. Shepard is the first Specter (an elite force that responds directly to the galactic council) chosen from among humans.
Because they are the “newcomers” among all the alien races of the Citadel (considered as the political center of the galaxy), humans are viewed with suspicion and involuntary, thanks to the “First Contact War” against the Turian people, which ended quickly thanks to the citadel interference, which classified the case as “a misunderstanding”.
So, when a human accuses the most decorated Specter, the turian Saren, of being behind the attack on the human colony of Eden Prime, along with the race of Geth (robots endowed with artificial intelligence, something forbidden in the galaxy), he will need to gather evidence and will end up discovering something much bigger than just a renegade Specter that threatens not only humans, but all living beings.
Talking about games: Mass Effect 2
No one on the galactic council believes the Reapers' attack is imminent and they think it was all just a Geth rebellion with Saren's help. In search of evidence, the Normandy spacecraft undergoes an unexpected attack by an ancient alien race called Collectors that results in the death of Commander Shepard. At least, that's what they thought.
Months after the incident, Shepard awakens at the base of Cerberus, a fascist human organization that believes that humans should control all other races because they are superior, and finds that it was revived by them thanks to Project Lazarus, led by Dr. Miranda Lanson, to prevent the attack of the Reapers under the orders of the organization's mysterious leader, the Illusive Man, who not only believes in the attack but knows that the invaders are getting closer and closer.
Mass Effect 2 is considered the best title in the franchise and the Suicide Mission is often cited as one of the best missions in all games.
Talking about games: Mass Effect 3
This could be called “Mass Effect: I warned you!”. The Reapers arrive on land and begin their massive attack not only against the home of humans, but against all the planets of the Alliance. The Milky Way's only hope lies in an ancient project of the extinct civilization known as Proteans (responsible for several technological advances in the galaxy, such as the faster-than-light journeys that take place through dark matter, which is called the Mass Effect).
Shepard must bring together all the peoples of the galaxy in the development of the Crucible, a protean weapon that is the only known way to destroy the invaders. On his journey, he will understand the motivation of the enemies and still face Cerberus and its leader, the Illusive Man, who wants to control the Reapers and use them as a weapon in their domination of the galaxy.
There are a lot of complaints about the end of the game, in addition to the problems caused by the inclusion of multiplayer, which forced players to go online to unlock the good endings of the game. Some patches have been released to correct this, in addition to a new ending that is considered definitive.
Talking about the games: Mass Effect Andromeda
Announced in 2015 with a beautiful trailer to the sound of Ghost Riders in the Sky, Mass Effect Andromeda arrived by blowing up the heads of fans. But, unfortunately, it ended up disappointing during its launch. Poor animations, terrible facial expressions, bugs and other problems overshadowed the launch of this game.
Even the character's skin tones were a source of contention among some players who complained that there was no "white" color and that they did not want to play with a "Latin" protagonist. After a few corrections the game became stable.
In Andromeda, you accompany the colonists of the Milky Way towards the Andromeda galaxy, which is 600 years away from Earth traveling at a speed greater than that of light. However, when they arrive, the situation was not what they expected. In addition to a strange mist that surrounds the planets chosen for colonization, a race of hostile aliens threatens the travelers' plans;
Here you control the Ryder brothers, Scott or Sarah (and, if you don't change, the NPCs call you by name), who must take on the mantle of Pathfinder and figure out how to find a new home for everyone before the resources of the Hyperion colony ark run out. In addition to the new home, you will have to unlock the secrets of an alien race of machines and restore the planets to make them habitable.
The problems at launch caused the early end of Mass Effect Andromeda. Initially, Bioware's plans would not be to turn Andromeda into a trilogy, but the game even had the release of a DLC that would explain the reason for the disappearance of the canceled Quarians' ark, stating that this and other stories would be told in other ways.
Talking about games: Mass Effect 5
Released in December 2020, a trailer announcing that a new title in the franchise, called at the time The Next Mass Effect. There is no information on what will happen in the game, but it is already known that it will take place in the Milky Way and the character Liara appears in the trailer with a piece of what fans believe to be the armor of Commander Shepard.
In addition to PC games and consoles, Mass Effect won some mobile games. Some are no longer available in stores and no longer receive support from developers. So even if you find it out there, there is no guarantee that it will work.
Mass Effect Galaxy was released exclusively for iOS in 2009 and discontinued in 2012. It is a top-looking shooter in which you accompany Jacob Taylor, an agent for Cerberus. Jacob appears in Mass Effect 2 as a playable character.
Mass Effect: Infiltrator is a third-person shooter developed by IronMonkey Studios for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10. It is no longer available for any platform since 2018. You control Randall Ezno, a renegade agent from Cerberus who discovers that the organization is not what it seemed to be.
Mass Effect 3: Datapad was released for iOS in 2012 and was an add-on to the Mass Effect 3 Galaxy Map. Players were able to follow the progress of the galaxy's readiness, received messages from the characters and had a mini-game in which they could send troops to fight in Sessions. map. These missions took some time and could be completed more quickly with the use of credits. Unavailable since 2013.
Mass Effect Beyond the Games
Mass Effect's success surpassed games and the franchise was adapted to other media, such as comics, books and animations.
This animation was produced by BioWare, FUNimation, TO Entertainment and animated by Production IG. The film was shown in selected cinemas on November 29, 2012. It was released for digital download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on December 14, 2012, and on DVD and Blu-ray on December 28, 2012.
In it we follow James Vega, a character known to players for being present in the third version of the game. The events take place during the second game and show Vega and a group of Alliance soldiers, Delta Squad, in the human colony of Fehl Prime, which specializes in developing pharmaceutical products and is under attack by the Collectors.
Released between 2007 and 2012, Mass Effect had four books that connect to the main series and three linked to Andromeda. In Brazil, some were published by Editora Galera, these being "Revelation" and "Ascension", from the main series, and "Insurreição no Nexus", from the Andromeda series.
The Revelation, Ascension, Retribution and Dececption books accompany Lieutenant Anderson and Major Kahlee Sanders in their first searches for reapers and Cerberus. Three of them were written by Drew Karpyshyn, who also worked on the game, and four by William C. Dietz, the most criticized for his inconsistencies with the game that were corrected later.
The Andromeda series had three books released. "Insurrection on the Nexus" tells what happened to the first settlers who arrived in Andromeda and the difficulties that led some of the settlers to separate and abandon the Hyperion ark. It was written by Jason M. Hough and KC Alexander.
Initiation, written by NK Jemisin and Mac Walters, focuses on the past of the character Cora Harper. And the last, Mass Effect: Annihilation by Catherynne M. Valente, shows the fate of the Quarian colonizing ark.
Currently, there are eleven comics in the Mass Effect universe, and all feature side stories that don't involve Shepard or the characters in the games, the only exceptions being Mass Effect: Genesis, Mass Effect: Genesis 2, and two editions of Mass Effect: Foundation.
The first two, Genesis, are interactive and released for PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, to replace the first game in the franchise, which was not released on these consoles. In them, the reader controls Shepard's decisions and these will be considered in Mass Effect 2 as if they were the import of a Mass Effect 1 save. Mass Effect: Foundation tells a story about the protagonist of the mobile game Mass Effect Galaxy, Jacob Taylor .
Although all non-interactive comics released so far have varied authors and artists, they are all colored by Michael Atiyeh.
Highlight is Mass Effect: Blasto: Eternity is Forever which tells the adventures of Blasto, the only Hanar Specter and who is the protagonist of a series of fictional films within the universe of Mass Effect. He's like a James Bond with tentacles.
There is no concrete information about the release of a Mass Effect film, but in February 2021, actor Henry Cavill released a photo of a script for an adaptation of Mass Effect. It is not known what his role will be, but speculation is that he will live Commander Shepard.
Some fanfilms were made and released on the internet. Two that deserve to be highlighted are Mass Effect: Isolation and Mass Effect: Red Sands, the latter is carried out by Mark Meer, the voice of the male Shepard.
