Moba with Nintendo's pocket monsters, Pokémon Unite will be released this year on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices
Developed by the TiMi Studio Group, Pokémon Unite had its official release confirmed for this year, arriving first on Nintendo Switch and then on mobile devices later in the year. While the game is free to play (or "free to start" as Nintendo prefers to say), players will have the option to make in-game purchases.
When Pokémon Unite is available for Switch and cell phones, it will support crossplay so players of both platforms can play together. The game requires a Pokémon Trainer Club account or a Nintendo account to play, but it also supports shared progression so players can play on Switch and continue playing on mobile.
The official trailer shows Aeos Island and a new form of energy called Aeos energy that can be used to evolve Pokemon. The island is where players meet the Unite Battle Committee, where they will participate in a series of tournaments. Players form teams of five and compete for the highest score before time runs out.
What do we know about Pokemon Unite
5v5 battles require collecting Aeos energy by defeating wild Pokémon and then depositing that energy in the opposing team's goal zones. Each stadium has different rules, like different numbers of team members, game schedules, and even legendary Pokémon that appear. The game will have casual matches and also ranked matches, where teamwork will be even more important, and players will gain or lose points in them that increase or decrease their rank in the rank.
Pokémon and Trainers can be customized in terms of appearance with clothing and accessories. There is also the option to take a Coach selfie for the player profile.
To find out how leveling up in the game works, Pokemons are always set to Level 1 at the start of each Unite Battle. They gain experience points through battles and also through the Aeos energy, which helps them level up. When they have enough levels, they will learn a “union” move, a special attack that can only be used in Unite Battles.
Interestingly, the strengths and weaknesses of Pokémon types don't exist in Unite Battles, instead each creature has its own stats alongside its own roles, such as attacker, defender, accelerator, supporter, or all-rounder. But, to use a Pokémon in Unite Battles, you'll need a license that can be purchased through the Committee by exchanging Aeos coins that can be obtained during battles.
Do you like a battle pass? Pokémon Unite has a seasonal pass that will allow players to play and earn in-game rewards by leveling up for completing missions. Although, if you buy Aeos Gems, you can simply upgrade your battle pass and earn more rewards. It is detailed that the game has three types of currency: coins, gems and tickets. Gems are paid, while coins and tickets can be won in-game.
This isn't the first time we've heard about Pokémon Unite as the game was unveiled last year, but from there until now, nothing more has been said. That was until March of this year, when footage of the closed beta came online showing the game in action. As expected, Nintendo dropped the videos and now it's just a memory.
Pokémon Unite will be released on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 and will be available for mobile devices in September 2021. You can go to official website is available if you want to know more.
