Since its release until today, version 2.0, one element is missing in the game. What happened to them? Where are the dendro characters in Genshin Impact? let's talk about it
We already have over 30 characters in Genshin Impact today. With different elements and different types of weapons in their hands and, if we're going to analyze, the distribution of elements is not fair. We have a lot more characters with the pyro element and currently we're getting a new wave of electro characters, leaving these elements with more representatives than the others. We also have a lot more characters that use swords than other weapons.
(We also have more female characters than male characters, but that doesn't seem to be a problem.)
However, since the release of the game until version 2.0, one element is missing from the game and, according to the release schedule, we have no forecast of their arrival in the game: the dendro, the element that manipulates plants and vegetables. Although we've seen some in-game visions in the game, whether in the hand of Baizhou (the Bubu pharmacy owner, who takes care of Qiqi), some stuck to Raiden Shogun's statue of eternity and in characters' speeches, like Xiangling mentioning Yaoyao, none until today it has been put into play. What is the reason for this?
When do the dendro characters arrive?
Possibly close to the 3.0 update
What are the dendro characters of Genshin Impact
So far, Baizhou is the only dill in the game
Who is the dendro archon?
Not even his name or appearance has yet been revealed.
Who is Yaoyao?
Dendro character who trained with Xiangling
What are the reactions with dendrous?
So far, there is only the "burning" reaction (dendron + pyro) of the dendro samachurls
The Dendro element in Genshin Impact
Dendro is one of the seven elements of Genshin Impact and is the domain over plants and vegetables. The dendro visions are given by Archon Dendro, who hasn't even revealed his name or appearance yet, all we have is a few accounts of him coming from the characters:
- According to Ganyu, Archon Dendro is a man;
- Dainsleif says “The enemy of the God of Wisdom is wisdom itself, and the oasis of knowledge is a mirage in the desert of ignorance. In the city of scholars, there is an incentive to madness, but the God of Wisdom does not argue against it.”;
- Zhongli says he is the youngest of all the archons, being about 500 years old, against the 6000 he himself would have been at the time of his supposed death;
He is the lord of the nation of Sumeru, known as the nation of Wisdom, but, according to the characters, the rise of the new archon has caused sages and scholars to become recluses, seeking a kind of restricted and stoic knowledge. What was once a place to spread knowledge has become a center for the selfish accumulation of wisdom. Sumeru's landscape features deserts and forests. In the plot preview for chapter Teyvat, Dainsleif compares it to a desert, and Liben (that NPC who looks like Cute Joe and gives gifts) mentions that “Sumeru is all rainforest and desert”.
Among the well-known characters who have had some relationship with the nation is Lisa who studied at the academy in Sumeru and, despite being the best student the academy has had in 200 years, she returned to Mondstadt because she was disappointed by the "delusional scholars" of there. Also, according to the description of the Green Shadow set artifacts, there was a "disaster in the nation of wisdom" and "the god of the forest suffered together in this disaster".
So, somehow, the fall of the old God of Wisdom made the new one decide to accumulate all the knowledge for himself, instead of spreading it. Could it be that this plot is affecting the “distribution” of dendro visions around the world and that's why we don't have a playable dendro character yet?
The Dendro characters
So far, among the characters featured in Genshin Impact, we have two characters who use the dendro element: Baizhou and Yaoyao.
He first appears during the Archon Quests, Chapter 1, Act 2, “Guizhong”, when we go to Guizhong's crossbows to hunt coconuts for little Qiqi and in exchange for being able to buy Eternal Incense without a prescription. He is the owner of Bubu Pharmacy a renowned pharmacy in Liyue. Many come to it because of its unique yet effective treatments. Similar to Fischl, he has a talking pet character, Changsheng, the white snake resting on his shoulders.
He didn't display any specific powers, but the eyes with vertical pupils indicate that he probably has some connection to his snake and possibly to poisons, which would help in his position as a pharmacist as well.
Although not revealed in-game, Yaoyao has already appeared in one of the first official Genshin Impact artworks revealed by miHoYo and in some character lines, such as Xiangling's revealing that Yao is her training partner and more responsible than she, although she's younger and says she hasn't been at the restaurant in a while. Ningguang says that Yaoyao is under Ganyu's protection and that she does not intend to publicly disclose the matter.
Ganyu says she is in charge of preventing her from boarding the Crox, Beidou's ship. Does the girl then want to run away from Liyue and become a pirate? One thing is certain: Qiqi thinks Yaoyao is cute as a bird. So we know, for sure, that she's cute!
Enemies with dende power
So far, the only effective dendro users in the game we have are enemies. The dendro slimes, dendro Samachurls, wood shield hillichurls and wood shield mittachurls are the only forms of dendro power we see manifesting in the game.
Mittachurls can use a dendron slime that they pull from the ground to transform into a large wooden shield, but hillichurls only have a shield in their hand and, being wooden, are considered dendrous. The big dendro slimes, after the 1.6 update, started dropping seeds and summoning smaller slimes, but before that they had absolutely no power.
The only ones that have any effective power are dendrous Samachurls who are able to summon a barrier of thorns and cause characters to have a type of dendro area of effect that will be harmful if the character comes into contact with fire, causing the "burning" status and an additional 20% fire damage, but so far these are the monster's only powers.
What's the matter with the dill?
While it may seem unlikely, the problem with dendro is: Maybe miHoYo doesn't know what to do with it.
We cannot say that the power to manipulate plants is a "weak" power, after all, if we look at pop culture, in anime or comic books, we have powerful dendro users out there, like:
Aphrodite of Pisces: The Golden Knight of the 12th constellation is possibly one of the most well-known dendrous users. In addition to its three roses, the red, black and white, capable of killing enemies slowly (or quickly), the Fish Knight also controls poisons that can kill without even the enemy noticing. In the manga “Episode G”, Aphrodite shows an absurd power to control a gigantic tree of thorns and, at the same time, heal Aiolia and transfer part of her cosmos to her. A dendrous user capable of attacking and healing would be an excellent dps or sub-dps, just like Jean.
poison ivy: The DC Comics villain is also capable of manipulating all kinds of plants, preferring to attack with carnivorous plants and mind control through pheromones. A character with similar powers could summon carnivorous plants as his elemental blast that would remain on the field even if the character was switched (which would make that character an excellent sub-dps) and control enemies for a while with his elemental skill.
Pplant okémons: The Nintendo franchise is full of ideas for dendro powers, from vine whips, cutting leaves or seeds that suck energy from enemies, not to mention shooting sun rays or using poisons. Several dendro characters could be born from the inspiration of pocket monsters, for different powers, being either for damage, support or healing.
However, what seems to delay the release of characters must be elemental reactions. Genshin Impact is heavily based on reactions of combining elements and using reactions in combat and, among the elements already released, anemo and geo are elements that do little to react with each other. Anemo just scatters these elements and geo produces shields and, no surprise here, one still doesn't react with the other, making these elements players least like to use.
Dendro may be suffering from this problem. How to combine dendro and cryo to create a reaction? Dendro and hydro? Dendro and anemone? There aren't many possible combinations other than dendro and pyro that are already in play today for the element which must be delaying the element's introduction into the final game. It would be possible for miHoYo to include the same damage boost status with other elements (as it already does with pyro), but it's likely that players wouldn't be satisfied with this effect, and while there's no better idea, it's possible that the element stay out of the game.
So, until there's an effective and creative way to combine plants with the rest of the game's elements, it's possible that dendro will be left out of the game. However, considering that Sumeru is the next nation we'll visit after our journey through Inazuma ends, it's possible that a dendro character will be added to the game by the end of the year or next.
