Executive report reveals that launching exclusives on other platforms did not hinder sales on Sony's console and plans Uncharted 4 on PC
In addition to the artificial intelligence work that Sony has been doing, as we said here, other information about the Sony meeting shows that they have plans to take other of their big franchises to the PCs and that, contrary to what many people predicted, bringing these games to computers did not hinder their sales on their consoles.
According to the report's image, in addition to Days Gone, which is now available for computers, the company is studying to launch its latest game in the Uncharted 4 franchise on the PC. This also matches the recent inclusion of a developer page created on Steam under the name Playstation Studios.
This page shows that there are a total of 44 contents, but only 27 of them are currently visible. It shows three games developed and published by the company: Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn and Predator: Hunting Grounds. These titles, added to their DLCs, and some other multiplatform games from Sony add up to a total of 27 publications. The other games are still hidden to date.
Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment said in an interview with GQ Magazine:
“I think that some things have changed. We are now in the beginning of 2021 with our development studios and the games they make in better shape than ever. Particularly in the last half of the PS4 cycle, our studios have made some wonderful, great games. There is an opportunity to expose these great games to a wider audience and to recognize the economics of game development, which is not always simple. The cost of making games increases with each cycle, as the IP caliber improves. In addition, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has increased. So it is a very simple decision to make. ”
In addition to this novelty, the report also revealed that the launch of The MBL Show 2021, a baseball game previously exclusive to Sony platforms, on the PC did not hinder the game from being one of the most profitable on the console. This report then shows that launching exclusive console games could be a new source of growth for Sony.
In the lower corner, it still shows that the company is keeping an eye on the mobile market, which may indicate that the company's ips can reach cell phones too, in some way. To date, no information has been released on Sony's plans for mobile.
Beyond Uncharted 4 on PC
Uncharted 4 - A Thief's End is an action adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. In it we accompany a retired Nathan Drake in his post-treasure hunting life. He is persuaded to leave retirement by the appearance of his older brother Samuel. Together with their former partner Victor Sullivan, they look for clues to the location of pirate Henry Avery's lost treasure.
The game follows a line similar to Tomb Raider, where you must investigate mysteries in tombs, solve puzzles, explore wild places and discover treasures. In addition to the games, Uncharted will get a live-action version starring British actor Tom Holland (Spider-Man Homecoming, Avengers and Away from Home).
This being the four title, there is also no information as to whether Sony intends to release a collection of previous titles or how it will explain to players who do not know the franchise about what happened to Nathan in the previous games. I, in particular, always wanted to play Uncharted 4 on the PC, but starting with the fourth game doesn't seem like a very attractive idea.
