choose a legend

Apex Legends Tips: 36 Tricks To Dominate The Battle Royale | apex legends, battle royale, electronic arts, fps, Multiplayer, pc, playstation, Respawn Entertainment, xbox | apex legends tips

Apex Legends has 14 playable characters to choose from. Each legend has a passive, tactical, and ultimate ability. In addition to these advantages, all legends play the same way. They move at the same speed and can pick up and use the same gear. Know that no matter who you choose, you can still make it to the end of the game, so we suggest taking a tour of each legend to see which skills suit you.

For example, if you like using blazing weapons, Bangalore or Wraith might be right for you. If you are a cautious Battle Royale player, Bloodhound and Gibraltar are good choices. If you play the role of curator in other games, Lifeline might work for you.

Stay with Jumpmaster

Like other Battle Royale games, Apex Legends starts with the fall. One player in your team of three is designated as Jumpmaster. The other two can suggest places to go, but at the end of the day, the Jumpmaster chooses the location and angle you're heading there. At times, you may strongly disagree with the location. Perhaps it is an arid area with little likelihood of equipment. Or maybe you can see other teams going in the same direction. It happens.

But avoid the temptation to separate from your team, which you can do at any time during the descent. Division is a recipe for premature death. Not only is an organized squad likely to take you down sooner, but you're also too far away for your comrades to revive you.

It doesn't land in the exact same spot, though. You don't want to run after one of your teammates while they get all the gear in a specific area. When you're close to the ground, stop at an unoccupied building or loot area and build your cargo ground, always staying relatively close to the rest of your team. This will give you the best chance of finding decent items, while ensuring you won't be left alone.

stay together and use your skills

After collecting some initial items, stick together as a team. Apex Legends doesn't emphasize teamwork as much as Overwatch does, but certain Legends fill in the gaps left by others. A list of Bangalore, Gibraltar and Lifelife offers a good balance of offense, defense and support, but you can also be creative. Loba can point her team to a better serve, while Pathfinder can quickly explore new areas. Regardless of which legends make up your team, find out how they work best together and implement that strategy.

This usually comes down to using your Legend's abilities early and often. Once you've chosen a legend, learn your skills inside and out. It's pretty easy to recognize when you need to call Lifeline's DOC Heal Drone, for example, but learning the right time to deploy the Revenant Death Totem is something that only comes with practice.

Choose items and weapons carefully

Unlike Call of Duty: Warzone, ammo occupies a backpack slot. You only have eight slots to start with, so it's easy to fill them by picking up different types of ammo, grenades and health boosters/shield. You can add another six slots on top of that if you find other backpacks around the map, so always keep an eye on them.

When you first release it, it's okay to catch everything you see. But after picking up a weapon or two, take a look at your backpack. Chances are you will have some incompatible ammo. It's up to you, but we recommend discarding ammo that you can't use right now.

When you find new weapons, you will almost always find the ammo she uses next to or nearby. It's such a waste to drag unusable ammo, especially when you can use those precious accessory slots and all the important consumables.

play aggressive

Apex rewards aggressive players. Practice closing the gap between you and the enemy during the fight, rather than getting stuck in a cycle of jumping out of cover, spraying, and hiding again to recharge and heal. Learn the best tools for the job with our best weapons guide and weapons stats.

Maintain a presence while injured

Most players will push hard if they hit the enemy well. If you get hit hard, do what you can to maintain a presence and prevent the enemy from pushing you back. Sometimes it's better to keep fighting and risk getting knocked down, because breaking an enemy's shields can be enough to stop their attack and save your team. If you need to heal, use our health and healing items guide to better understand which healing items to prioritize in different situations.

withdraw quickly

Loot as quickly as possible and don't stand still while you serve. Trust your initial check of the items in a death box instead of wasting hours wandering around. Be disciplined with your serve time and don't come back for a second look. Check out our guide on finding the best loot for more information.

flank carefully

Wide flanks are risky but powerful, as long as you have enough distance and cover so the enemy can't attack one of you while you're split. Be sure to keep line of sight with allies if you decide to flank.

learn to roam and hunt

The key to winning games at Apex is to start early. Play aggressively after your initial serve, earn a few kills to boost your confidence, and move on quickly. Olympus in particular makes a great map for roaming and hunting, but on any map you need to have a firm understanding of the most popular locations and rotation options.

Good positioning wins fights

Good positioning means three things: a vantage point on the enemy; multiple options for solid coverage; and a “back off and heal” route if things go wrong. If any of them are absent, you are not in the best position. Legends with team repositioning abilities (Ash, Valkyrie, Horizon, Octane, Pathfinder and Wraith) take responsibility for this analysis.

Practice in Apex Arena mode

Season 9 of Apex Legends brought a new permanent mode that now exists alongside Apex's main Battle Royale mode. This 3v3 round-based mode takes players straight into the fight over and over again, making it fantastic for learning how to fight and survive. Lucky for you, I've put together a detailed guide on how to play and win in Apex Legends Arena mode.

Learn the best Legends and team combinations

Each of the various Apex Legends characters brings their own skill set to the team, and there are a number of opportunities for skill synergy and great team play. Take a look at the tips below for some premium information on team synergy and Legend picking.

Mobility skills are essential

I strongly recommend that all teams have at least one good mobility-focused skill, preferably one that the entire team can use. Fast repositioning is a big part of staying alive. Learn about the characters and their abilities with our Apex Legends character guide.

Recon Legends are very powerful

The second thing I look for in a good team composition is the patrolling potential. Seer, Bloodhound and Crypto are all indispensable team players thanks to their ability to spot threats early. The same is also true for Ash, who has an advantage when it comes to outsourced teams thanks to his Passive ability.

Hitbox size matters

Different Legends have different hitbox sizes, making them easier or harder to hit. This is partially balanced by a bonus Passive ability called Fortified for the larger characters, Caustic and Gibraltar, which decreases damage taken and grants immunity to the least slow effect of a shot. There used to be a low profile skill for minor characters that increased damage taken, but Apex Legends season 9 removed this feature. Learn more about these perks with our Apex Legends fortified low-profile guide.

Memorize the legends and skins of your teammates

When targeting an ally, your badge disappears, making it harder to tell friend from foe. At the start of each match, be sure to commit to memory not only your teammates' Legends, but also their Legend skins, so you can quickly distinguish them from enemies in hectic situations up close.

Don't limit yourself to "meta" legends

Don't pay too much attention to which Legends the pros use, or which characters have the highest win rates. Apex Legends is a wonderfully well-balanced game these days. Try all the characters you can, learn their skills. Unpretentious legends like Loba and Rampart have become two of my favorites over time because my teammates and I learned to make the most of their powerful and not-so-well-understood skills. And the same is true for other less-used Legends such as Mirage and Fuse.

The best equipment for different situations

Loot is the cornerstone of nearly every Battle Royale, and Apex Legends is no exception. There's a lot to learn about the various weapons and equipment you can find throughout each game, but the following tips will highlight the essentials.

Use a well-rounded loadout

To maximize your chances of consistent winning in battle, you should have at least one automatic weapon. Ideally, you'll also want to cover all distances with your two weapons. Check out our betteror loadouts page for ideas.

Attachment dependency factor

There are many Apex Legends accessories, and they all change your chosen weapons in significant ways. Sometimes the lack of a certain accessory can spell disaster in a fight, which makes weapons like the Wingman or Flatline more attractive because they don't need as many accessories to stand out.

If you're playing on the Stormpoint map, also be aware that defeating the NPC enemies (Prowlers and Spiders) will reward you with “smart loot”, meaning they will drop attachments specifically for the weapon you used to defeat them. This makes hunting down NPC nests very powerful for weapons with a high reliance on good accessories.

Choice of weapons for certain ranges

Indoors, you can choose any SMG or Shotgun and you'll be great because they're all extremely well balanced and powerful. For mid-range, the Rampage, Hemlok, Flatline and R-301 Carbine are best. At long range, a Triple Take, Charge Rifle, Kraber or Sentinel are ideal.

Understanding the Evo Shields

All Body Shields in Apex Legends are now called Evo Shields, and can be increased by scoring enough damage, up to a maximum of Red Shields that provide 125 extra HP. This means that during the serve, you should also switch to an equivalent color Evo shield if it takes less damage before leveling up. Another good trick is to fight near an Evo shield on the ground, which you can switch to instead of spending time healing. For more information, check out our Apex Legends Armor and Gear guide.

Executing Enemies Replenishes Shields

There is merit in using a finisher or execution on a downed enemy: doing so replenishes all your shields without you having to use a consumable. It's a risky task, because the downed enemy will no doubt let your teammates know what you're up to.

poking enemies

The Body Shields' leveling means there's some merit to taking long-distance shots, even if you don't plan on tracking your shots at close range. Excellent weapons to nudge include Wingman, Sentinel, 30-30 Repeater and G7 Scout .

Gold Gear

Gold Gear has a particular unique benefit and is always worth buying in place of Purple Gear – but not necessarily Red Gear. There is merit in choosing a Gold Body Shield or a Red Evo Shield. Red gives you more hit points for a spray-down encounter, while gold shields allow you to heal much more efficiently if given the chance. Both have their favorable situations.

Using Knockdown Shields with good results

Knockdown Shields don't just protect the wearer: you can also protect yourself behind the Knockdown Shield of your own downed teammate in dire situations. I've seen many fights won with this tactic. For more information, check out our guide to reviving and being reborn in Apex Legends.

It pays to accumulate craft materials and spend them on a Replicator of Shield Batteries and other powerful items you won't find elsewhere. Let the placement of Crafting Materials influence your choice of landing location for each match.

When to fight and not to fight in Apex Legends

The best teams in Apex Legends can quickly analyze their situation and decide whether to fight or reposition in the blink of an eye. With these practical tips, you too can learn this vital skill.

Stay tuned with 3 teams remaining

With three teams remaining, you must be very careful when deciding whether or not to get involved. The advantage always goes to the last team to enter a three-way match. Try to escape rather than fight if you're not the last team of the three to start shooting.

pay attention to the ring

During the course of an Apex Legends match, the Ring will slowly contract and force players to band together. Over time, the ring gets a lot more damaging, so especially later on, you should pay attention to whether you need to move to the next circle. Consider this when wondering whether to start a fight right near the border.

Effective Outsourcing

If you're about to outsource a fight that isn't over, analyze the situation and target the team with the greatest chances of winning. Targeting the wrong team first is the most common downfall of the third-party tactic.

Splitting up the team results in a bad defense

If a player is in bad shape and needs to escape a fight, the entire team's goal must change to accommodate this. Other healthier teammates should try to escape with them or find safe ways to stop and push the enemy team using skills or a burst of fire at the right time.

stay to cover

This was mentioned earlier, but if you don't have cover close by (or if you have to share cover with a teammate), it's a sign that you're not in a great position to get involved in a fight. Don't get caught in an easily punishable space. If you do, you better get a good sense of movement. If not, check out our guides on basic movement and advanced movement on Apex Legends.

Communication Tips and Tricks

Let's finish off with some useful tips to keep in mind on how to communicate and work with your team during an Apex Legends match.

Use the Ping system for effective communication

You can ping so many different things in Apex Legends. You can ping loot, enemies, supply crates, Bloodhound tracks, Wraith portals… But you can also use pings within your inventory to request ammo, a weapon, or a specific attachment. Don't let the lack of voice communication get in the way of your team's chances of winning. Check our guide to the Apex Legends ping system for details.

Information overload is better than silence

If you is using voice chat and you really want to win the match, you must keep a constant flow of information in and out of combat. Your teammates should know where you are in relation to them, without having to take their eyes off the goal of looking for you.

Ask your teammates for graphical settings

It's very important to make your game run as smoothly as possible, and your video settings play a very important role in that. Ask your more experienced teammates what settings they are using. Or, indeed, check out our Apex Legends settings guide to see a full analysis of each option.
